Gearing Up for Better Mileage

According to long-time automotive supplier Visteon Corporation, the improved efficiency of its rear axle gear lubricant can save nearly 12 million gallons of gasoline per year.

How so? During durability tests on Ford pickup, SUV, and sedan models, the lubricant was found to improve fuel economy by 0.1 to 0.2 miles per gallon.

While this may seem a small increase, the savings can add up quickly if the 1.8 million Ford vehicles produced annually were to use this lubricant over an average of 12,000 miles per year. This is important news considering the auto industry goes to great lengths to pick up even the slightest fuel economy increase through others means such as engine efficiencies, lightweighting, or improving aerodynamics or rolling resistance.

Visteons Fuel-Efficient High-Performance lubricant was developed in cooperation with ConocoPhillips and Ethyl Petroleum Additives.
